The great puppeteer was shown the love by six puppets though the Google doodle today doesn't go directly to what today's doodle is about only after placing the cursor over the doodle for a couple of seconds does it reveals the link of Jim's 75th birthday.

Google has been adding interactive doodles for quite a long time now.

and this one is also user interactive doodle, thanks to Google for remember the great puppeteer!

So many services were built around images in tweets, viz TwitPic, Tweetphoto, Latest hot favorite Instagram, yfrog, ImageShack, twitgoo , Pikchur, Pictor! Now with embedded media shown when viewing a single tweet twitter's official photo sharing service would work well against the likes of twitpic and co.
You can attach a 3 MB image and the upload it via that little camera button near Add location!

Sprouter going offline! Yeah they are shutting down!

It is very unfortunate that Sprouter.com is going offline!
The site domain has a big header now, saying "Sprouter is shutting down August 2nd"
They have a blog post saying Sprouter is Shutting Down
They have cited capital constraints as the reason behind shutting.

We’re devastated to have to shut down the service but unfortunately, due to capital constraints, we’ve simply run out of options.

I believe hosting to be the major reason in these capital constraints, small startups should have their own servers and as they grow and start earning money somehow by making some features premium or running Affiliate Programs or running Ads on the site then they should move on to servers like Rackspace Cloud or Amazon AWS or have their own datacenters!
New startups should learn from TwitPic founder Noah Everett who kept his initial hosting on his own servers kept in his tiny apartment then he added servers and then onto a datacenter!
He is running Google Adsense on TwitPic!

So what was Sprouter?
Sarah Prevette {Founder & CEO} founded the company which relies on startups.
It's basically twitter for startups with 140 char long question answers it was a community for the startups/founders by the founders where founders could go and ask similar folks questions they are facing.
Seems like Sprouter couldn't help themselves out!
I would blame the hosting solutions they choose for the product, Rackspace Cloud or whether it is Amazon AWS it's very heavy load on a "sprouting" startup!
This load sinked the yacht that Sprouter had. How many startups are there very limited, right? on my estimates there are 1-3 quality startups/day emerging. how many would have gone to Strouter for help people there were just you and me no experts no Louis Grays no Robert Scobles
It was destined to fall!
However i shouldn't have written that but it is true.

Twitter's 'at' versus Google Plus's +

Found something interesting!

Earlier i thought or i knew only '+' to be the name insertion script initiator but now as i was typing a comment on +Ben Parr 's post as i typed @ for twitter's @username for writing Jack Dorsey's username i found both '+' and '@' are name insertion script initiators! and while you can type @ after that anything on twitter the script would just look for the '@' and number, letters, underscores, without space and point it to the link twitter.com/username but here at Google Plus '+' and '@' are script {AJAX or asynchronous js script} initiators it only works if you start putting names {no not the usernames just plain old names} then it would give out a dropdown listing names of the profiles matching your written name and you can insert the link of the profile of the name you want but this dropdown is limited to only five names so how does the google let insertion of profile names if users are 6 of the same names and the one i want is ranked 6th? if you delete the name back to the '+' and start writing same name again or something else the dropdown wouldn't appears that's why i call them script initiators!

Automatticans test the code on the biggest installation of WordPress MU, the wp.com! they activate the nightly builds and RC's {release candidates} on wordpress.com! having an account on wordpress.com or wp.com means you can use Akismet too on your self hosted blog but for personal non commercial use {for which you have to buy a licence} Akismet key can be used for Akismet and wp-stats plugins plus if you have an account on wp.com you can use jetpack.me's powerful features! having a blog on WordPress.com means you have the cloud power of wordpress.com servers {with a few limitations} uptime of which is around 99.9% beatable only by Blogger so you can always use it as your main blog or status blog as twitter does by hosting a blog on tumblr but Blogger and wp.com are recommended for status blogs, because even tumblr and posterous had a major outage tumblr was down for a day or two and posterous were busy shifting their servers!

Google made a fool out of me today as it does every year this time it is Gmail again.
But then i knew somewhat but curious i opened the link only to be fooled by Google.

So what is this new joke of the year?
This one is a far-fetched earlier even the free internet via toilet made some sense but this one is out of league.
Lets see what it is:
They say Mouse and Keyboard have been around for a long time now is the time that you can use your body motion to control GMail but then there aren't much of input sources a pad or something something to sense the motion. No the camera won't help. Making it lamest April Fool's day Joke from Google where 'big minds' are working, not to underestimate their importance but they could have done a better job.
The Gmail Paper joke was a good one. I don't keep track of date and time, maybe one of the reasons i am not working for Google, wouldn't it be good to be in Larry's or Brin's position i love my little bubble i don't need any Google for it.

Cliqset may not have shut their business yet

They are posting that they are closing and that Darren Bounds and Charlie Cauthen President and Vice President were leaving the company but they didn't say they are shutting it all down there is a hope David Kleyla the developer behind Cliqset and Jeff Mehlhoff the designer are still at it. There is still hope they might hire some talent and would put it back on tracks.
Remember sign says they are "closed" not that the restaurant has moved out of here.
And besides David Kleyla and Jeff Mehlhoff put their best work into it they wouldn't want to see their product being abruptly chopped down.

That's a fascinating story, "twitter to th rescue".

Here is an outline:

She crashed ... in a forest ... no cell reception ... gravely injured ... she tweeted out.

Wow she had no cell reception what did she use to sent out a tweet?

She had a data plan?

GPRS activated on her device?

She sent out a txt message {SMS} to 40404?

She had a laptop, netbook, iPad, some other device

She had access to a Wi-Fi network

@twitter, please explain how she managed to send a tweet via UberTwitter with "no cell reception"?

After not seeing anyone or having anyone hear me, I then crawled myself to my BlackBerry that was in my bike pack under the seat of my bike, and I had prayed that it was not wrecked. When I saw the phone on and working I immediately attempted to call my cousin Maria with whom I was visiting with all week (Maria was at home, not on the race with us, but knew I was on the race). But the signal strength for a phone call was so low and the connection was dim with the call saying “connecting….” Her phone rang once, then it went silent. I tried calling a second time but no luck. Her phone didn’t even ring. At this point I knew the connection was too low for a call, so I decided the Twitter route

Thankfully, the signal I had was strong enough for an Internet and texting connection. I also learned in the midst of it all that the BlackBerry instant message (BBM) worked too.

One question that remains fuzzy for some is how was I able to get an Internet connection on my mobile phone but not able to make a phone call? When USA Today covered the story they spoke to David Redl, Director of Regulatory Affairs at CTIA – The International Association for the Wireless Telecommunications Industry. David was quoted saying “that in areas with spotty cell phone coverage it’s not unusual to be able to send instant messages or messages through the internet.” Simply put, on a mobile phone, a phone call “connection” requires a large amount of bandwidth and strength whereas a text message, instant message or internet connection requires very little.

So there was no "no cell reception" it was a spotty reception happens in hills {in my experience}, in this case forests, twitter is utterly wrong when saying "no cell reception"

Text messages or GPRS packets are small bits some of which keep trying with modern day phones even after sending failed for the first time so when ever they get a chance they take a leave from the phone straight to hit towers

Whilst a phone call requires a lot of bandwidth and continuous connection of caller and receiver.
That might be the reason she got through to twitter and write a tweet calling for help in emergency

Twitter is having over capacity issues on Christmas day, it isn't that this wasn't expected but strange is the twitter team's dedication towards its service,
twitter status {b}log {however can't be called a status log because not everything, not every detail is recorded there} twitter should keep logs detailed entries be recorded of what went wrong during troubled times {fail whales} or other bugs and service outages
Twitter had major outages during world cup but they didn't learn anything from that, they didn't add any extra bandwidth to compensate for the increased usage of API by 3rd party apps, and new accounts being registered, such high traffic occasions as today {Christmas}

Meaningful Growth

In the past 12 months, Twitter users sent an astonishing 25 billion Tweets and we added more than 100 million new registered accounts. In that time, our team has grown from 130 people to more than 350 today.

Where is the server growth or increase in bandwidth? 100 million is a great number, calculate the number of tweets they would send, via apps, web interface etc.

UPDATE Oct 6th, 2010 12:00pm: Error rates have declined and the site is recovering.
There should be a way to report errors to twitter when like today the tweets can't be sent notes at Twitter Status blog would be great since it is a tumble (tumblr) log OR we can have aseparate Reports Blog running elsewhere blogger, tumblr, wordpress, posterous!
So that there is early resolution of errors, downtimes, bugs etc so that we can hope for a BetterTwitter

YouTube incorporates vuvuzela try any video and there it is after the resolution switchboard and before Language tools the soccer ball

It can be switched on and off plays a small audio clip in loop of vuvuzelas in resonance

It is strange why would they put such a thing?
Maybe they want users to have the vuvuzela effect in all the match videos available on YouTube.

simler.com now hosts a blog of Simler on tumblr .
A post at the blog at simler.com says:

Twitter Uptime and World Cup!

Twitter is suffering major as Twitter's status blog would say "site availability issues" as of now.
Everyday the users complain that twitter is down and that they are getting fail whale and been tweeting with hashtags #failwhale.
Sometimes you can't even login to twitter: fail whale comes in all it splendor!
"Over Capacity" and 503 error messages keep on popping up every time you try to refresh/reload the page.

Twitter has set up a new page at http://twitter.com/worldcup/ for Soccer World Cup 2010 (June 11-July 11) Here it shows tweets regarding world cup teams, players, matches and everything tweeted world cup.

The link it redirects to is http://twitter.com/worldcup/worldcup/ it seems like @worldcup was taken earlier so it has to go subpage.

Twitter does have pages like http://twitter.com/about but then twitter.com/user_name is usually a twitter account, it seems highly unlikely that twitter had reserved this http://twitter.com/worldcup/ earlier on.
However it could very well be a defunct account, so rather than over riding the @worldcup twitter took a subway it got to subpage http://twitter.com/worldcup/worldcup/ which is similar to the twitter lists.

There is a possibility of such a situation.
However it would be interesting to see what this page http://twitter.com/worldcup/ would link to once world cup would come to an end.

Wanted to archive my tweets before they become inaccessible {remember twitter does that}.
Tried a lot of services which included TweetBackup, Twistory {on recommendation of Chris Pirillo}, Evernote {@myEN}, and others too!
Found both these simple and good!

Backup your tweets with Tweetake or with Backupify

Tweetake
Tweetake is the simplest way of archiving your tweets.
Do it in simple steps.

1. Visit their site http://tweetake.com/
2. Select from your tweets, followers, friends {whom you follow and they follow you}, favorites, direct messages OR just simply everything.
3. Select encoding from excel compatible UTF-16 or UTF-8.
4. Hit Get 'em and from there on OAuth would take the wheel, authorize it by signing in to your Twitter account.
5. There it is, excel sheet containing your tweets along with other meta data.

after 48 hours you would be emailed that your backup is ready!
What is interesting is that it provides the backup in XML formats and a pdf file.

Why only 3200?
This is at twitter end. and that's the reason why you need to start archiving your tweets.

Love simple and clean UIs, try to keep things clean but now with Amazon Associates links and widgets things look a bit messy. And i am not changing that!
Earlier {even now} blogger's template Minima has been favorite and now in designer templates love the basic one, Simple by Josh Peterson.

All the basic templates are great but Minima stands out for me for it's simple design and readable fonts {default, untouched, not custom}

White backgrounds are basic don't love much color spread if color be there it should be like Google's logos and labs, contact and others background the red, blue, green and yellow balls.

Good design is as little design as possible.

This blog shows ads from Amazon via Amazon Affiliates!
For each sale i would be getting something, it is not that i want you to make me some money but i wanted to tell you what all the widgets and links + image links are doing here on the blog!

I feel like a salesman {which i don't like} until i make a sale i wouldn't get anything!
it's different from Google Adsense, where i had no worries {got none right now too} whether someone buys or not!
In Adsense all one {or me/I} have to do is write original, worthwhile posts!
and traffic would come along if you write frequently and well!
but here in Amazon Associates they make salesman out of bloggers!

P.S: was banned by Google from Adsense, reason? circumvented traffic via Opera Mini's California servers, they couldn't find it but eventually they {google} did and banned me from the program! Earned {not 'earned entirely because it included wrongful traffic} a few dollars {$120+} in the process!

If someone were to ask me about Dave i would say he is a Google in his own right.

Like Google he is always working on different/number of products.

Google celebrates Pac-Man's 30th Birthday

Google is celebrating the 30th birth anniversary of pac-man, the simple game most remember playing in their earlier years!
Also this doodle is Google's first app/game/playable/ Doodle.
It is a game sans flash, amidst's flash trying to make some reputation that they are one of the top products of web and part and parcel of the web!
takes almost no time loading unlike flash for which you have to wait for the progress bar or the go-round animation, clock or simple percentage loaded meter!

Google is proud of its new Doodle which coincidently came after the Doodle competition!

You must be aware that Google changed its homepage a little while back and thats where the fade in comes from among many other little changes.

but as i checked today the homepage is completely changed, the logo is the prime feature and the homepage at http://google.com/ sports the old logo from the times when Google started, the colors are almost same as they were when Google initially started/gone online.

Yeah as you all know Scoble has been saying it that too for a long time, geeks most of them have moved away from FriendFeed, it is not that there aren't tech talks but they aren't that intense as they used to be. So we don't have much on that front let's celebrate one of the prominent members on FriendFeed today.

She is an artist and she draws the moods and life on FriendFeed, recently she began posting her works on to her blog at posterous. She is one of those gifted folks.

Yes, people she is none other than Kamilah Gill.

FriendFeed dead?

There were discussions on FriendFeed regarding this. Originally started by CN guy Allen Stern when he wrote a piece on his blog titled "Anyone Still Using FriendFeed", which subsequently appeared on his FriendFeed feed where major discussions were held, with Louis Gray also participating.

It was strange however the way he started his piece with "Remember FriendFeed...?" He cited compete's analytical data on FriendFeed to say that FriendFeed would be dead soon, losing its users as time goes by.

Article noted that after FaceBook's acquisition of FriendFeed, it is losing the status it enjoyed earlier. He argued even Robert Scoble and Louis Gray aren't using it much, with Scoble spending more time at Twitter and Louis sharing stuff via Google reader.

Back at FriendFeed many said that FriendFeed is second to none when it comes to technology, though it lost many users and people aren't doing it as they used to and that yeah Scoble was using it less but Louis is keeping it the way he was cruising earlier.

The thread shows how FriendFeeders care about this wonderful aggregation service.

And then there were discussions on FriendFeed vs Cliqset, with the topic originating from the piece titled Cliqset: FriendFeed Done Right written by newly sworn writer Christina Warren at social media watch Mashable. Poor Christina's writing skills were argued and the article was dubbed as the worst article ever by Mashable by Robert Scoble.

Christina's post was ripped apart by FriendFeeders on mashable then on FriendFeed.

It can be said that: Christian Warren was mashed for choosing wrong title and not doing enough research first.

Then we had our very own Steve Rubel talking about how Posterous is catching on FriendFeed citing Google trends.

This post started the discussion on whether Posterous can be a replacement to FriendFeed.

Overall there were nice conversations among FFers on a lot many topics

Checked my Best of the Day at FriendFeed and found a strange trend, a lot of people are posting their images taken at their desks/working stations.

They are a whole lot of folks,even some who haven't ever posted a picture in a long time.

What is it an "At your Desk Day"?

It is good though, for we can't see the full size account image on FriendFeed like we do on Twitter.

Best of the month...a small roundoff

Google Wave was the center of hype at FriendFeed. Google launched its "revolutionary" discussion platform, which was projected as the conversation of today. Google let some 100,000 users have the preview of its newest product. but mostly people were complaining about the delay in receiving their invites, those who had been invited directly by Google Wave had the privilege of inviting their near and dear ones to have a look at the new release, but these couldn't further invite others. there has been this great google wave invites thread, which received some 500+ applications. And those who had spare invites posted their own posts and response has been enormous.

Then of course there were opinions of the early adopters/social media authorities/geeks in general, regarding Google Wave as a product and vis a vis to the hype that it generated, questions were raised popular among them was "if it were a solution, if yes then what it improves?"

(of course the phrasing were different ;))

And there were posts by Louis Gray (louis gray live) and Robert Scoble (scobleizer) 1 & 2 and many others too.

Overall the response was mixed but there weren't much praises.

And there was a lot of activity regarding #blamedrewscancer (http://blamedrewscancer.com/)on both FriendFeed and Twitter from where this hash tag orginated, while Drew Olanoff himself was seen writing a new tag #blameethanscancer(http://blameethanscancer.com/).Drew Olanoff put @drew for auction there were talks on both FreindFeed and Twitter about Drew Carey offering $ 1 million. This led to stories by CNN and many others. Then there was this great post by Louis Gray on Drew Olanoff and his great strength.

Mostly there was one topic that was very frequent on FriendFeed, photography and there were a great lot of nice/cool images to see.

As usual the social stuff ruled and was the most commented topic, as usual there was a lot of fun going on FriendFeed, a great place to be.

Technology is still lagging...

FriendFeeders are also more into social stuff than technological, technology is still lagging and more personal, hilarious, babies stuff is ruling FriendFeed these days.

Believe it or not http://friendfeed.com/akiva/a38423a6 this post has yielded more than a thousand comments and more than 200 likes.

There is stuff that is more personal and social life related that is riding the tides on FriendFeed, which of late has been known as the forum for more sophisticated users (according to a study).

Media, web, technical talk is lagging far behind.

This is the time of babies on FriendFeed, Scoble's RSS, Louis' twins, lovely girl of Rochelle are in FriendFeed's limelight, they have taken over FriendFeed along with other little babies of FriendFeeders.

So for now there isn't anything technical going on...:(

Yeah! this blog is inspired by FFundercats http://ffundercats.com/ which derive their name (i think) from "underdogs".

Well to say the least Johnny and Josh are doing a great and a very difficult job.

Tech talk is in small amounts and isn't the popular brand on FriendFeed, which is considered to be playground of Robert Scoble, Louis Gray and many other tech bloggers and social media authorities.

It is becoming difficult to pick those berries among other things on FriendFeed but let's not loose hope and let's watch out for the interesting tech tales...
